Our Sustainability Pledge
We do what we can to limit our impact, by…
Reducing Air Miles
We always try to buy British when we can. Quality, freshness and variety come first and we’re lucky that some of the best growers of alstroemeria and seasonal farm flowers are right here in West Sussex. While we still support international growers, we are mindful of air miles so if we can find great flowers closer to home, we do. We buy alstroemeria every week from Warburton and seasonal flowers through the summer months from a wonderful grower in Coneyhurst - who also has an amazing selection of dried flowers.
Reusing and Upcycling
The cellophane we currently use isn’t recyclable and takes a long time to break down. For this reason we do try to encourage alternatives and reduce out usage where possible.
We have explored cellulose which is biodegradable but it can start degrading too soon and is inferior in suitability - as soon as there is an alternative that works well and is affordable, we’ll make the switch!
Better still however, we offer reusable containers and vases or we are very happy to fill your container if you bring it in!
The option of a hand tied bunch ready for a vase is the most sustainable option of all and all you/the recipient has to remember to do is re-cut stems before putting into a vase/container at home.
Reducing Non-Biodegradable Products
We switched to biodegradable floral foam a long time ago now and find that it works just as well as the traditional kind, although it does take time to biodegrade 100% (approx 18 months in the right biologically active conditions).
We try and encourage using other options where possible for example switching to a tied sheaf for funeral flowers instead of the more traditional coffin spray.
We have experimented with other alternatives like agra-wool but in our opinion it is not great and the jury is still out on how much more environmentally friendly and sustainable it actually is.
We use containers and vases in place of pedestals and arrangements where we can and there are lots of other options to be creative.
Supporting Local
We love working with local people and other independent stores in Pulborough and all the nearby villages. We support groups, schools and local charities where we can.
we try and buy stock from local suppliers whenever possible too...
Deliveries
We do have an electric vehicle to make all our deliveries. When we get deliveries really local we tend to walk them - unless its really bad weather!
